In his foreword to Harm Reduction International’s (HRI) 2024 edition of the Global State of Harm Reduction, our Executive Director Sam Rivera discusses the importance of harm reduction.

“As the language of harm reduction becomes more popularised in the USA and across the globe, the Global State of Harm Reduction 2024 reminds us that harm reduction is more than buzz words and services. True harm reduction is the epitome of meeting people where they are, without coercion or judgment,” he writes.

For the first time ever, the report includes a chapter dedicated to Indigenous people, and Sam also writes about the influence that Indigenous culture has had on OnPoint NYC, the importance of this chapter’s inclusion, and the need for harm reduction programs in Indigenous communities nationwide.
