Health & Wellness Services

We offer an array of in-house clinical services for people who use drugs or engage in sex work including HIV and Hep-C testing, wound care, Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT), including buprenorphine, medical assessments, and counseling. We also provide the COVID-19 vaccine, flu shots, acupuncture, acupressure, and reiki.

HUB Clinic

In 2018, we expanded our decade-long partnership with Montefiore Medical Center and became designated as one of New York State’s 12 Drug User Health Hubs (NYHRE’s Drug Use Health HUB Clinic in East Harlem), offering an array of in-house clinical services for people who use drugs. The HUB Clinic currently hosts 3 part-time clinicians (plus the support of a rotating team of part-time addiction fellows) who provide clinic coverage over 3 days each week. Services provided include HIV and Hep-C testing and care, wound care, Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT), including buprenorphine, medical assessments, and counseling. All services provided through the HUB Clinic are low-barrier, low-threshold available without an appointment in a walk-in setting. The HUB Clinic accepts almost all forms of insurance and supports people to obtain Medicaid benefits if they are eligible.

COVID-19 Vaccine Outreach

With support from U.S. HRSA, we also conduct regular Vaccine Clinics to provide community members with the COVID-19 vaccine and flu shots both on-site at our locations in East Harlem and Washington Heights, and in partnership with other local organizations. We also conduct COVID-19 outreach and education through events, partnerships, and our social media platforms.

Holistic Wellness

We offer acupuncture, acupressure, and reiki to reduce stress, reduce the urge to use, and create a healing environment for participants. We also facilitate nature walks and host “Wellness in the Park” during the warmer months of the year where we offer holistic health to the public, conduct Naloxone trainings, drug education, and offer safe supplies. We also bring our holistic health services into the community through our SEP waivered sites.

Other Services

Our Drop-In Centers (DIC) are no-barrier, walk-in spaces at both locations, East Harlem and Washington Heights, where we offer coffee, snacks, showers, bathrooms, and laundry. We focus on meeting participants’ basic needs, building trusting relationships, and then gradually engaging individuals in higher levels of care.

We provide syringe exchange, safer drug use supply provision, education, and counseling which provide people who use drugs with the tools they need to reduce the potential harms associated with drug use and needle-sharing, including information on safer sex, HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment.

We made history and became the first organization in the US to open two OPCs (also known as Supervised Consumption Centers) that monitor drug consumption on-site in East Harlem and Washington Heights. The program reduces overdose death and health risks associated with drug use.

We operate a hotline number (718-415-3708) for community members to report syringe litter or public drug use. Our staff dispatches a team to clean up the area and to help divert public use. We also educate our community members on harm reduction, overdose prevention, and other services.

We have teams of Case Managers at both of our locations who conduct benefits navigation, advocacy, health navigation, case conference sessions with various providers, drug education groups, individual counseling, and modalities for safer drug use.
