The Trump administration has barred certain federal grants from funding some harm reduction programs – despite research that shows many programs, such as OnPoint NYC’s services, benefit public health. The Washington Post reports, noting that OnPoint NYC, a  successfully intervened in nearly 2,000 overdoses, and highlighting the impact that harm reduction can have on individuals:

“Sanders, a former carpenter from Ohio, had been living on the New York streets…Wanting to change his life, Sanders began talking to an OnPoint NYC staffer who arranged for him to enter a Manhattan rehabilitation program. Today, Sanders said, he is on opioid treatment medication and has been sober for more than six months. “I love these people,” Sanders said of OnPoint NYC. “They saved me from the trenches.”
