Part-Time Registered Nurse
Position Summary
OnPoint NYC is seeking a Part-Time Registered Nurse (RN) to deliver non-traditional, street-based clinical care through both mobile medical units and clinic locations in East Harlem, Washington Heights and the Bronx. The RN will provide low-threshold, culturally relevant, and non-judgmental health services including Medication Assisted Therapy (MAT) connection, HIV & Hepatitis C (HCV) testing and treatment, STI testing and treatment, overdose prevention and training and urgent and general health care. The part-time RN will work in public spaces and all weather conditions, collaborating with OnPoint’s outreach and clinical teams to serve marginalized communities in high-need neighborhoods.

- Biweekly Rate: $3,192.31 – $3,269.23
- Annual Salary: $83,000 – $85,000

Responsibilities
- Responds to each client’s need for health care and health education independently, and when appropriate provides linkage to OnPoint’s physicians clinics in East Harlem and Washington Heights
- Utilizes the nursing process to assess, plan, implement and evaluate participant care independently
- Conducts HIV rapid testing and HCV rapid and point-of-care HCV confirmatory testing
- Implements complex and simple wound care and dressing changes; removes sutures as needed.
- Administers directly observed therapy (DOT) medications to participants as part of our treatment program and supporting treatment adherence
- Delivers non-judgmental education around overdose prevention & reversal with naloxone, safer injection practices, safer sex, vein finding, infectious disease prevention and/or management, buprenorphine initiation/management, HIV prevention with PrEP, HCV treatment and re-infection prevention, and hydration/nutrition
- Connects individuals to appropriate OnPoint NYC case management services, mental health services and psychiatric services as necessary; warmly hands them off to the appropriate staff person
- Coordinates external specialist appointments and requests escorts when appropriate.
- Promotes informed, autonomous decision making with participants to reduce risks associated with drug use
- Communicates with Director of Clinical Services and Certified Medical Assistants regarding inventory standards and tracking for supplies and equipment to meet nursing care needs
- Provides excellent documentation of services in both Montefiore Medical Records (EPIC eHR) as well as OnPoint NYC records (Welligent eHR); documents both internal and external referrals
- Contributes to monthly and quarterly funder reports as assigned by supervisors
- Contributes to development and revision of policies and procedures, and clinical protocols for treatment at our clinics and in adjacent overdose prevention centers
- Performs other related tasks and responsibilities as assigned
Qualifications
- Graduate from an accredited nursing program. New graduates are welcome to apply.
- Current New York State (NYS) Registered Nurse license.
- Experience working in community health with marginalized populations preferred. Including; HIV positive individuals, active drug users, unstably housed individuals, sex workers or formerly incarcerated individuals.
- Current CPR/BLS certification required.
- Must be comfortable independently carrying out clinical skills (wound care, triage, overdose reversal, health assessments) with little oversight.
- Maintains respect and compassion for all clients being served, regardless of their active drug use or treatment compliance.
- Commitment to harm reduction and social justice as it pertains to individuals who use drugs or engage in sex work in a multi-cultural, multi-racial environment, in a non-judgmental way.
- Spanish language skills are highly preferred.
- Strong phlebotomy skills with patients who have vein finding difficulty is a plus.
