Our Creative Arts program is a blend of art therapy models, community-based and culturally responsive care facilitated by a licensed creative arts therapist and creative arts assistant.
Participants have the opportunity to be expressive, creative, and discuss topics such as substance use, loss, family, anxiety, and societal pressure in a safe and inclusive environment by utilizing various forms of expressive arts.
The program creates space for resilience, encouragement, and community-building through expressive arts. Participants share stories, explore creativity, and build connections in an environment that meets them where they are, reminding them they are valued and that they each have a gift.
Expressive Arts Studio
In Expressive Arts Studio, participants have a chance to embrace their creativity and process thoughts through art-based activities such as mask-making and affirmation scrolls. It is a space where participants are able to safely explore and connect with others by hearing and sharing each other’s stories.
Paint & Chill
Participants engage with one another and show off their painting skills in Paint & Chill groups. The focus is on socialization, community building, and therapeutic art making, offering a space to connect and create together.
Drop-in Center (D.I.C) Studio
The studio brings art directly to participants in the Drop-In Center. The art team provides materials such as coloring sheets, art packets, and art kits so participants can comfortably create art. The team also engages participants to further build community and trust.
Art Skills 101
Art Skills 101 offers traditional art classes developed in collaboration with a university art professor. Participants learn foundational drawing skills such as observational drawing, line pressure, perspective, and shading, with a focus on skill acquisition.
Sound Collective
Sound Collective is a welcoming, community-building singing group designed to foster connection and joy through music. Using lyrics and instruments as tools, participants share stories, express desires, and present their authentic selves through song. The group offers a powerful outlet for connection, healing, and a sense of belonging.
Beyond The Block
Beyond the Block offers participants the opportunity to explore museums, parks, and cultural spaces throughout New York City through monthly group trips. Designed for participants who may have never traveled outside of Harlem or Washington Heights, the program creates opportunities for exploration and community-building in spaces that have not always felt accessible or welcoming. Past trips have included visits to the Bronx Museum and the Frida Kahlo exhibit at the Museum of Modern Art.
HOTLINE
We operate a hotline number for community members to report syringe litter or public use. Our staff dispatches a team to clean up the area and to help divert use.
