Part-Time Holistic Health Specialist

Position Summary

The organization is seeking a part-time Holistic Health Specialist to perform holistic health services including acupuncture to reduce stress, acupressure to people actively using drugs, including injection drug users (IDUs), sex workers, and people living with HIV/AIDS and/or Hepatitis C.

Responsibilities
  • Provide NADA protocol/auricular acupuncture, acupressure, and reiki in the office and during street-side outreach events
  • Provide holistic health counseling and complete linkages to supportive and other complementary services needed for OnPoint NYC participants and community members.
  • Provide education about harm reduction and holistic health services.
  • Identify new locations and settings where PWUD may be living, using, and transacting; conduct outreach to these areas as needed.
  • Manage materials and supplies for outreach distribution.
  • Attending meetings and trainings as directed by supervisor.
  • Clean and prepare holistic area and restock in-office and outreach supplies daily, as scheduled, and when needed.
  • Perform other related tasks and responsibilities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must be certified as ADS – ACUPUNCTURE DETOXIFICATION SPECIALIST
  • Must be outgoing, organized, self-motivated, and committed to working in a diverse environment
  • Must be a team player and able to work effectively with a large variety of personalities and abilities, and pragmatic with excellent problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills
  • Must be familiar with and believe in a harm-reduction philosophy
  • Must be willing to work outdoors several hours per shift in various weather conditions as needed; some weekend and evening hours to provide outreach services to high-risk populations that congregate during irregular hours
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to work with diverse communities (multi-gender, -ethnic, -generation, -lingual, political) as well as enthusiasm for working with individuals who are current substance users
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Internet, and email correspondence
  • Spanish speaking preferred but not required.
